About Us

Brigantia Needlework was started by a family company of four generations, with over 60 years experience of craft kit production. Starting as a tapestry Church kneeler business, who produced thousands of projects from Pew Runners for Canterbury Cathedral to Kneelers for small chapels, the popularity grew.

Volunteers within the church were introduced to tapestry where they had no previous desire to stitch, but by the time they had completed their contribution to the Church they had developed the skill into a hobby and could find no other company with the unique features we provided. This then opened the route to a commercial side of the business, Brigantia Needlework, which offered a range of new item kits, including cushions, rugs and tea cosies.

Sadly, in 2019, both companies were about to close for good when they were thankfully picked up by another family business, Hayes & Finch, who have been established since 1882. At Hayes & Finch we have continued the principles of the company with all design, canvas printing and kit assembly being completed in-house using all the best materials, including colour printed canvas and the finest quality wool.

All kits continue to be suitable for all abilities and styles, containing hand printed colour canvas accurate to the stitch for easy following. All 10 hole kits continue to be supplied with a colour chart to help identify the correct wools to use. The wool continues to be produced in Yorkshire from the finest quality fleece giving a smooth, glossy yarn which is dyed, treated with conditioners and gently dried to produce a full and soft finish, ideal for tapestry. We continue to offer the hundreds of designs, in ranges for beginners through to experienced needle workers.
